A white paper is a report or guide that informs readers concisely about a complex issue and presents the issuing body's philosophy on the matter.
There are, as of writing, 512 different whitepapers available at aws.amazon.com/whitepapers. The Well-Architectured Framework is the recommended reading for passing the AWS Architect Associate exam.
The Well-Architectured Framework
The whitepaper covers five different sections.
- Operational Excellence - running and monitoring systems, and improving processes and procedures
- Security - focus on securing information and systems
- Reliability - focuses on ensuring that a workload is performing it’s intended function and it does so correctly and consistently
- Performance Efficiency - focus on using computing resources efficiently
- Cost Optimization - focus on avoiding unneccesary cost
