Compute
Compute includes services for processing information. This entails virtual machines, lambdas and more. The most common ones are
- EC2 - essentially virtual machines
- Lambda - server-less functions
- Elastic Beanstalk - provisioning engine, or automatic deployment of applications in AWS
Storage
Storage can be thought of like giant disks in the cloud. It is a safe space to store and persist data. Key services include
- S3 - Simple Storage Service, object storage in the cloud
- EBS - Elastic Block Store
- EFS - Elastic File Service
- FSx
- Storage Gateway
Databases
Databases are like spreadsheets with fast access and fast modifications. It can be used to store and retrieve information about users, products, articles and so on. In AWS there are a couple of alternatives.
- RDS - Relational Database Service
- DynamoDB - Non-relational database
- Redshift - Database warehousing technology
Networking
Networking are used for communicating between different services. For example an application needs to be able to connect to and communicate with a storage or a database. Some common services includes
- VPC - Virtual Private Cloud
- Direct Connect - Directly connecting your headquarter to AWS
- Route 53 - DNS registrar and management
- API Gateway - Serverless way of replacing web-servers
- AWS Global Accelerator
